Hotzones in view
Where the animal you picked is most likely to be, based on cover, food, water, mapped deer yards and moose areas, terrain, roads, time of year, harvest history and your own sightings. It's habitat rules, not a count of animals: a guide to ground worth scouting, and your own sightings tune it.
How you sit
What you carry
Picks where to sit by each hotzone so you can see the animal coming, within your range. Used for trips too.
Activity forecast
Find hotzones or tap "Use map centre" to see the next 7 days.
Kept on this device. Export GPX now and then as a backup. It opens in any GPS app.
Offline areas
Save an area yourself
For a trip somewhere new, or a bigger area. Pick what to save; you'll see roughly how big it is first.
The map on screen (12 to 45 km across). Pick what goes in below. Full detail keeps every zoom so it works up close like it does with signal, but it's a much bigger download.
The whole unit. Pick what goes in below and how close you want to zoom. Save as much as you like: Close-up and Full detail keep the finest photos, but get big fast. Full detail keeps every zoom, so the WMU works up close like it does with signal. Jackpine Topo is a fraction the size of photos, so it's the one for big northern WMUs.
Land and WMU lines, forest roads and the map you pick below, for the whole province. Hotzones need a WMU or on-screen save. More provinces as we add them.
What to save
What this save keeps, and what it doesn't
Saving an area needs a free account. It's quick, and your saved areas stay on this phone or computer.
Shows the app exactly as it works with no signal, using only what's saved on this device. A bar on top lets you go back.

Backup
A backup file has everything: spots, markers, routes, sightings, photos, your tuning, checklist and settings.
Group sync with GitHub (share spots and plans with your hunting partners)
Uses a private GitHub repo you own just for this data (for example yourname/hunt-data), and a fine-grained token with Contents: read and write on that repo only. The token stays on this device. Give your hunting partners access to the same repo and they'll see your saved spots and routes and the plans you send them. Anyone with access to the repo can read everything in it, so keep it private and only add people you hunt with (use a separate repo for spots you keep to yourself).

Jackpine Outdoors: hunting and camping map
Hunt planning across Canada, from BC to Newfoundland and up to the territories: where you can hunt, when it's open, where the animals likely are, and how to get there.
Fully checked in Ontario, Saskatchewan, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with the other provinces in Beta. On the map: Crown land and hunting zone seasons, "Can I hunt or camp here?" with leases and mining claims, cutovers by age and planned cuts, fire history, tree species and forest type, hotzones, wind plans and scent cones. It all keeps working with no signal, and the free Android app records your track with the screen off.
Camping across Canada, in every province and territory: where you can camp on Crown land, and good spots to pitch a tent or park a trailer. Pick an animal on the chip at the top for hunting.

Before you head out
This is a planning aid, not the law. Land lines are approximate. Check fire bans and any posted signs, and leave your site cleaner than you found it.
This is a planning aid, not the law. Seasons were copied from Ontario's 2026 tables, which Ontario calls tentative. Check the Hunting Regulations Summary. Other provinces' dates were copied from their own summaries and not yet checked, so always confirm in that province's regs (the Beta chip on the map links them).
Hotzones are predictions. They point at likely ground to scout. They don't see animals.
Green isn't a free pass. Borders come from the province's own maps and can be off by tens of metres, more near property lines. Stay well inside and confirm. Crown land can be under lease, licence or mining claim, posted, or behind private land, and townships have firearm bylaws. Yellow covers everything not mapped as Crown land, so assume you need permission there.
Crown land camping in Ontario: free for Canadian residents, up to 21 days on one site per year. Most non-residents of Canada need a permit north of the French and Mattawa rivers. Other provinces have their own rules: check before you go.
How campsites are picked
Only ground you're allowed to camp on is picked: Crown land and mapped campsites, plus parks or private land if you say so. Spots rank higher for water close by, flat dry ground, shade and shelter, quiet, and an easy way in for how you travel: by truck and camper, on foot, or by canoe.
Pro adds bug risk, shelter from tonight's wind, frost and rain at camp, and a breakdown of each score.
It can't see beaver floods, new cottages, other campers or fire bans, so take a look before you set up.
How hotzones are worked out
Pick an animal and a week. Jackpine weighs what that animal needs at that time of year against the ground around you, and shades the likeliest spots to scout.
- Cover, food and water: forest, edges, wetlands and shorelines.
- Regrowth: old cutovers and burns that have grown back into browse.
- Ontario's wildlife maps: deer yards, moose feeding and wintering areas and more.
- Pressure and terrain: how far from the roads, and the lay of the land.
- The season: the rut, late-fall browse and winter each change what matters.
- Your own history: markers for harvests, spots you've hunted, stands, sign and cameras, plus your sightings, pull hotzones toward them. Add them with Add → Marker, or import old GPS waypoints.
Scores are relative to the area you're looking at. It can't see beaver floods, fresh cuts newer than the satellite map, or where other hunters park, so your own markers matter most.

Ontario Hunting Regulations Summary · Deer and moose season dates
Gets the newest version of the app and its prediction model, the latest season dates and rules file, fresh land, roads, WMU, wildlife-area and habitat data from Ontario, the newest satellite cutover year, and new map squares. Then it re-runs your last hotzones or trip plan on the fresh data. Your saved spots, routes and camps stay. Ontario publishes regulation changes on ontario.ca as web pages, so the season file is updated by hand when they change. Check the links below too.
