Jackpine Outdoors · last updated October 17, 2026Jackpine Outdoors ("Jackpine", "we") is a map app for hunting and camping in Canada. This page says what information the app uses, where it goes and how to get rid of it.
What stays on your phone or computer
- Your location. Used on your device to show where you are, record tracks and paths, and run hunt mode. We don't receive it unless you save something (a spot, a track) and sync it to your account, or turn on live sharing with a group.
- Live location in a group (Pro and up, off unless you turn it on): while it's on, your latest position (to about a metre, with its accuracy and time) goes to the people in that group through our database provider's live connection. Only the latest point exists and only in memory: it's gone when you stop, close the app or lose signal, and no history is written anywhere. It turns itself off on a timer you pick (1 to 8 hours) and under 20% battery where the phone reports it.
- Garmin inReach on a group map (off unless you add it): if you add your MapShare link to a group, the people in that group see the latest point your inReach shares on MapShare. Our server reads that public MapShare page when someone in the group has the app open and keeps the answer for two minutes; nothing is stored. Remove it from the group card any time.
- Saved spots, routes, tracks, sightings and photos, your settings, model tuning and checklist. Stored in your browser or the app. Without an account they never leave your device unless you export or share them.
- Offline areas you save, and the app's map cache.
- Hotzones, trip plans and campsite searches run on your device, from public map data (Ontario's and the other provinces' open data).
Ultra's advanced model runs on our server. When you use it, the app sends the area you're searching, your settings, and the spots and sightings you've saved there (so the model can learn from them) to work out the answer. We use them only for that search and don't keep them.
What we keep if you make an account
- Account: your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google.
- Synced data (if you sync): your saved spots, routes, tracks, sightings, photos, settings, tuning and checklist, so they match on your phone and computer.
- Plan and billing status: which plan you're on, and for paid plans the subscription status and renewal date. Card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
- "I'd pay for Ultra": if you tap it, we record that you asked.
- Groups (if you make or join one): your name as the group sees it, and the spots, camps, routes and plans you choose to share with the group. Everyone in that group can see what's shared in it. What you hide is only hidden for you.
- Things you share (a spot, camp, route or plan sent to a person or as a link): what you shared, your name, and who has opened it. Only you and the people you sent it to, or who opened your link while signed in, can see it. "Stop sharing" on the Saved tab takes it back. Your photos are never shared.
Problem reports and ideas (account or not): what you write, the email you give so we can answer, and, if you leave that box ticked, technical details: app version, device and browser type, screen size, plan, recent error messages and where the map was looking. Used only to fix things and reply to you, and kept only as long as that takes.
Season alerts (account or not, off unless you turn them on): the address your browser gives us for sending notifications to this device, the zones you asked about, the alert texts and their dates. Nothing about where you are or who you are. "Turn off" in Settings or "Stop alerts" on a notification deletes it, and it's deleted on its own after a year without the app opening. Notifications reach you through your browser's own push service (Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft).
Usage counts (account or not): a daily tally of plain words such as "new visitor", "phone", "came from Google", "used Hotzones" or "an offline save failed", so we can see what helps people and what breaks. Each browser adds to most of them once. Only the word and the day are kept: no account, IP address, location, search words or anything else about you.
Only you can read your synced data. It's protected by row-level security in our database: each account can only reach its own rows and photos.
Who else handles it
- Supabase (database, sign-in and photo storage), hosted in the United States (us-east-1).
- Cloudflare serves the website, the app files and our topo map tiles.
- Stripe processes payments for paid plans and "Buy me a beer" tips.
- Google, only if you choose "Continue with Google".
- Map and data services. When the map loads tiles or the app looks up land, roads or weather for an area, your device asks those services directly (for example Ontario's Land Information Ontario servers, Natural Resources Canada, Global Forest Watch, Environment and Climate Change Canada, Amazon's open elevation tiles, and on some plans Esri, OpenStreetMap services and Open-Meteo). They see your IP address and the map area requested, like any website you visit.
We don't sell your information, don't show ads and don't use advertising or tracking cookies. The app uses your browser's storage only to work (keeping you signed in, your settings, your saved stuff).
Sharing
Share links contain the spots or plan you chose to share, packed into the link itself. Anyone with the link can open it. We don't store them.
Keeping and deleting
- Synced data stays until you delete it. Account tab → More → Delete everything synced to my account removes your synced data and photos and keeps your account.
- Account tab → More → Delete my account, or this page, removes your login, plan, synced data, photos and anything you shared with groups or people. If you pay for a plan, cancel it first. Payment records Stripe must keep by law stay with Stripe.
- Data on your device stays until you delete it in the app or clear your browser's site data.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
Children
The app isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, we'll say so in the app before it takes effect.
